This series of small shunting locomotives weighing 30 tons, made up of 89 units, was manufactured between 1970 and 1978 by SLM.
With an installed power of 280 kW it was the first large series of vehicles with hydraulic diesel traction used by the SBBs.
Mainly dedicated to maneuvers, track work and short journeys, their transmission allows them to choose between a maximum speed of 30 or 60 km / h depending on the needs of the service.

The second series, renamed as TM232, underwent some changes as of 2007, such as the particulate filter according to current regulations, the compressed air system and a remote radio control were renewed.
